Continuing on from my first article on WonFes Summer 2010, here are some more photos of the huge variety of garage kits and figures on display. If you haven’t read the first article yet, please take a look here!

These figures in cocktail and sundae glasses were cute – it’s hard to believe, but these weren’t real! The Japanese seem to have a flair for recreating food in plastic form – it’s common for restaurants to display their menus with plastic food in their windows to attract passers-by.

WonFes isn’t just about women and girls – you can get kits of different things as well, including this tray of slightly peculiar cats.

The race-queen look seems to be in vogue at the moment, especially with Good Smile Company’s Nendoroid releases to support their racing team. Here though we have garage kits of Asuka and Rei from Neon Genesis Evangelion. There have been real Evangelion race-queens but unlike these kits, their outfits are based on the plugsuit designs.

Cirno of Touhou Project might be considered a ‘baka’ but it’s good to see she does have some supporters out there. This kit is a good attempt at sculpting her, but I’m not a fan of the proportions though.

A little steeply priced for the size but I thought these Tenori Taigas from Toradora were cute.

A picture speaks a thousand words but for the photo below it’s probably a thousand people instead! The photo shows halls 5 and 6, with the whole event taking up 8 halls. As I mentioned before WonFes draws in about 40,000 members of the public, so you can see why so much space is necessary.

A pretty saucy garage kit of Yoko Littner from Gurren Lagann. I’m guessing this one will be quite popular amongst fans!

This garage kit maker had three superb kits that showed off a flair for imaginative, dynamic poses and fantastic sculpting. First up is Yui Hirasawa from K-On!, battling to stay upright after tripping over her amplifier.

Next is this character from the series Aria – not familiar with this one, but an attractive kit nonetheless.

Finally we have the ever-popular Hatsune Miku, magician style - it’s always great to see alternative takes on characters.

Although I haven’t played the game, I’m a fan of the design of the character Aegis from Persona 3 and thought these chibi garage kits were cute, if a little strange with the way the faces look.

An uncommon but impressive painting effect in the world of garage kits is to recreate the look of aged sculptures - this was a really good example.

This garage kit maker had a few nice kits on display. They seem to be fans of Evangelion but their Nagi kit looks great. They also had quite a professional stall – it appears there’s some money to be made in the garage kit world if you’ve got the skill.

WonFes Summer 2010 - Make Plus

As if the earlier kits of the Asuka and Rei race-queens wasn’t enough to get your pulse racing, someone decided to make them even more well-endowed and skimpy.

Strike Witches is a still popular series and these were some great kits. You’d need plenty of room to display them though, especially if you’ve already got some of the great Alter figures.

A slightly blurred photo of the Sanya kit, thanks to having to shoot at a distance. There was a lot of hustle and bustle with people trying to take pictures of kits. Of course, one picture usually isn’t enough for photographers – each kit has to be photographed at least three times it seems.

WonFes Summer 2010 - Sanya

These poseable garage kits were quite novel, as they were much larger than other kits based around figure series such as Figmas and Revoltechs. Safe but good selections for characters – Asuka and Yoko are ever popular.

Good Smile Company had plenty of new K-On! Nendoroids on display. Not content with just the full-size Nendoroids, it also looks like we’re expecting a Petit Nendoroid series as well. Think I’ll just stick to owning the full-size ones – if you already have some, will you be getting the Petit Nendoroids as well?

I’ll be keeping my eyes out for this Ui Hirasawa Nendoroid though. The Ui Figma was an exclusive from the last WonFes – wonder if this will be an exclusive at the next WonFes as well?

I was surprised to find out Good Smile Company will be releasing the Hayate no Gotoku characters in Nendoroid form – looks like poor Hayate won’t be getting his normal outfit though!

Good Smile Company continue their Nendoroid Playsets with this elegant example. If you’re lucky enough to have the Nendoroid of Sebastian from Kuroshitsuji, this playset would be a great match.

Nendoroid Plus phone straps of the K-On! characters. No indication of price - hopefully they won’t cost as much as the recent Toradora phone straps cost, otherwise they’ll be more expensive than buying a Petit Nendoroid!

Dolls of Nanoha and Fate Testarossa – think these were on the Azone stand.

I’m never sure quite how these cats came from the Monster Hunter games but they’re always cute.

I hadn’t come across anime fridge magnets until this trip to Japan. As well as the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha magnets it looks like we’ll be getting K-On! magnets as well. Perhaps fridge magnets are the way forward for those of us that have no room for figures?

More Touhou figures on offer. These were on display back in the figure manufacturers hall, so keep your eyes peeled online if you like the look of these.

A couple of photos of the figure manufacturers hall. It’s amazing to see the size of some of these company’s stands – it goes to show just how popular the world of figures is.

WonFes Summer 2010

Well, that’s almost all of the photos that I took at WonFes. There was a lot, lot more on display than I could have possibly taken photos of – even without the heat! It was a fantastic experience and although now that my girlfriend and I are able to say we’ve been to a Summer WonFes, it’s probably safe to say it’s ignited our desire to go to a Winter WonFes as well! Although before we return to Japan, it’d probably be a good idea to make sure there’s room back home for everything that we’d want to buy…
